Don’t Keep Touching That!
Most of us have that pesky ever-growing to-do list.
You know the one: the list of little tasks you know is important, yet you swear you’ll get to them “when I have free time.”
But let’s be honest—there is never enough free time. We often push off things we don’t want to do, only to find them creeping up on us again and again.
When tasks pile up without being handled, that list of things you meant to do in your spare time becomes a source of unnecessary stress and distraction, How do you catch up on that list, if it keeps getting longer all the time?
Touch it once
One productivity principle I’ve adopted is the “touch it once” prescription.
If a task will take less than ten minutes, then complete it right away! If a task can’t be managed in the moment, and you have to “put it aside”, then keep things in perspective. Ask yourself a few questions.
“Am I the right person to do this?
Do I even know how to do it?
Will I ever have time to do it?
Do I want to do it, or would someone else be better suited? And if so, who?”
These questions help identify tasks best suited to hand off for delegation. Often, small tasks—organizing files, scheduling appointments, responding to emails—can be efficiently managed by someone else. You shouldn’t have to do it all.
Remember for every task you delegate, you gain back the time and energy you need to focus on strategic goals, creative projects, and client relationships.
Technology - your best friend for tasks that need to be delegated.
A productivity app can help you create a high-tech to-do list that lets you delegate and track tasks effortlessly. To assign a task, simply click a button, add instructions, and set a due date. Once you assign a task, it is no longer your responsibility to complete it.
There are productivity apps that let you track the progress of tasks that you have delegated. These apps also let you share notes, upload files, and see status updates. This gives you a snapshot of task completion without having to manage every detail.
The value of delegating tasks isn’t just about saving time—it’s about reducing the mental load.
At Jude’s Desk, we take this approach one step further by managing your entire list of tasks for you.
When you hand off a task to our team, we log it in our productivity system, where it’s fully monitored and managed by our specialists.
Whether it’s a small task, like scheduling a meeting, or a larger project with multiple moving parts, we ensure everything is handled on time and according to plan.
The value of delegating tasks isn’t just about saving time—it’s about reducing the mental load.
When you stop “touching” each item on your list over and over, and hand it over to our team, you allow yourself the freedom to focus on what matters. And that’s what we at Jude’s Desk aim to do for our clients every day.
By managing your small details, Jude’s Desk can free you up to take on bigger goals and achieve a healthier lifestyle equilibrium.
The next time you come across a task that’s begging for attention, ask yourself if it really belongs on *your* plate. If not, hand it off to someone with the experience to handle it effectively, so you can move forward with confidence and focus.
